Provision of commercial and financial consultancy services to business based on extensive experience within the Oil & Gas business as follows:
Overview: I worked in management of the financial and commercial aspects of an Oil & Gas business for many years. During this time I developed skills and gained experience in: • building relationships with counterparties • developing and implementing strategy • constructing plans to realise strategic outcomes • engaging internal and external support for investment proposals • managing performance outcomes • maintaining financial control • influencing governments and regulators on frameworks governing the industry. Experience in areas of expertise: Strategy Development & Implementation: My focus has been to bring together many strands of opportunities and activities into coherent strategies for delivery of the desired outcomes. I led strategy development for BP’s UKCS Southern Gas Basin, UK onshore production and the Netherlands gas production and storage business prior to its sale. Business Negotiation: I engaged partner investors in proposals for developing resources, commercial solutions to support development projects and was part of the team which pioneered the development of radically new commercial structures to support multiple field developments in the 1990s, facilitating the ETAP development. I have led and directed negotiations with gas buyers and transporters in the UK and the Netherlands and with applicants for access to infrastructure. Advocacy Work: I advised the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs on new frameworks for the Dutch gas industry to address the requirements of European market liberalization and led negotiations with the Dutch Gas Regulator on the interpretation of the Dutch Gas Acts application to storage activity. I also worked with the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change on potential adjustments to the tax regime to further promote investment. Planning & Performance Delivery: Most of my financial and commercial management roles over the past 15 years have included accountability for developing plans and budgets and the monitoring of the delivery against plans. I have always taken a robust but pragmatic approach with focus on the overall performance delivery requirements. For 3 years from 2005 I worked with the BP North Sea Executive team as Performance Manager for the North Sea business. Financial Management & Control: My initial training as a Chartered Accountant provided me with excellent grounding in this area and I have continued to apply the principles and practices of sound financial control in all my work. This has been essential to maintaining the right environment for delivery of business outcomes and the discipline required to do so in a sustainable manner. I was also the Compliance & Ethics Leader for BPs North Sea business. Although my business experience has been dominantly within the Oil & Gas industry, many of the above skills (particularly in relation to planning, performance, financial management and control) are readily transferable to other sectors. Early experience with KPMG provided insight and understanding across a range of business sectors. |
